Sometimes I'll happen upon a blog that I have no idea how I've missed. It will seem to have been around forever and have a ton of great content, but it's just slipped through the cracks somehow.
The Social Work Action Network is definitely one of those things. Not only is this a well written blog, but also a website that has many other aspects to it to explore. There are events , petitions and a lengthy manifesto (that I have yet to read fully). Here is a bit about what they say about themselves:
SWAN is a loose network of social work practitioners, academics, students and social welfare service users united in their concern that social work activity is being undermined by managerialism and marketisation, by the stigmatisation of service users and by welfare cuts and restrictions.
We believe that good social work is a worthwhile activity that can help people address the problems and difficulties in their lives. Many of these difficulties are rooted in the inequalities and oppressions of the modern world and good social work necessarily involves confronting such structural and public causes of so many private ills.
Also found was a blog by a "forty-something" "full-time clinical social worker". The blog has a definite religious tone to it, but there are definite overlappings with social work in the content. The blog is called:
